Remote Camera Sharing
Synergy allows operators to request live camera footage between sites. Footage can be shared between client, display walls, third-party display walls and, if applicable, DVNP servers.
Prerequisites
You will need to
-
run the Synergy REST API installer.
-
create appropriate users and user groups on each site.
-
configure your remote server connections in order that both sites can communicate with each other. In the Advanced Configuration menu, go to System Properties -> Setup Remote Servers. Once remote servers are configured, each site will be able to see the available cameras from the other sites in their camera tree.
Note: If the user specified on the remote server configuration screen under the Users tab, as shown, is then selected under Users on the remote camera sharing screen, all users on that site with remote server permissions are automatically permitted to view footage. Effectively you have a single user that represents the given site and access is then given to the entire site.
Permissions
To set up permissions for camera sharing, go to Setup -> System Setup -> Advanced Configuration -> Users -> Setup User Group Permissions.
You will need remote server permissions for any user group sharing footage:
You will also need camera sharing permissions.
Licensing
A Remote Servers licence is needed. If you are camera sharing with DVNP servers, you will also require a DVNP license.
Operation
To request footage, go to Operations -> Camera Shares -> Add Camera Share.
Requesting Footage from Another Site
Site A can request live footage to be shared from site B.
To do this, the operator on site A enters
-
the name of the site to which they need access. In this example, this is FP-MAINSERVER.
-
the specific cameras to be accessed from the remote site. Once the site has been selected, a list of available cameras will display for selection.
-
which of their users on site A require access. The username and ID will be automatically added in the requester field when creating a new camera share.
-
a timeframe for which access is required.
Note: A date picker will display to select the time and date for which access is required. If a start date has been selected and then needs to be changed, select hold and Control to select another date.
-
any reasons for requesting access.
Once the details have been completed, click Request Access.
Site A will then receive confirmation that they have requested access.
Site B will receive the request, as shown, in the event panel. The site B operator can then open the event and see the request for camera access:
They must then choose to either grant or deny access.
In this example, the site B operator has chosen to accept the request and will need to confirm. The requester will receive notification that the request has either been accepted or denied and the cameras will now be accessible for the duration entered. Once that time period has passed, the screen will show as a blank, dark screen. This will happen approximately one minute after the selected time period has ended. If they click to another camera during that time and then back to the requested camera, it will also no longer display.
In the Camera Shares list, the request will display as Accepted. You can use the End Now button to cancel the request at any time. The history is also purged 30 days after the end of the request.
Note: If ending the camera share before the expiry time, you will be asked to enter a reason. This will display in the confirmation to the requester so that they can see why access has ended. The status of the camera share will be Ended.
If accepted, the operator will also receive a message to confirm that camera sharing has been accepted.
If the operator on site B chooses to deny the request, they will also need to confirm.
The request will then be listed as Denied and no access will be given.
Camera Shares
Click Camera Shares and then go to the Camera Shares tab to see a list of the requests site A has made for access to other sites. These are shown as pending and processed requests.
On the Remote Shares tab, you can see a list of all the times site A has been accessed from remote sites. So here you see FTP Mainserver has been accessing camera 76.
You can also see a list of all camera shares by going to Forms & Reports -> System Reports -> Users -> Cam Sharing along with details of when they were requested. This includes information on any camera shares that were stopped with details of the original end date and when it was actually stopped.
Remote Camera Sharing to Third Party Display Walls
The sources used for the display walls can be set up to use the remote camera sharing feature, allowing limited access to a remote camera. Once the time granted for access has expired, the camera will then show a configured blank/reference image/harmless feed.
When trying to access a camera in the layout that should not be viewed, these will also show a configured blank/reference image/harmless feed.
To configure this, first upgrade your Synergy to version 24.2.4.
On the third-party display wall integration, set up a 'dummy camera feed' by setting up a source with a static image/plain background with text/a dummy camera stream (as supported by the third party software).
You can then use the applicable display wall integration wizard to import the dummy source from the third-party integration and associate it with a dummy camera in Synergy.
Go to Setup -> System Setup -> Cameras -> Setup Camera Types.
Set up a camera type for the third-party integration and on the Advanced tab, go to Default Camera and add the applicable dummy camera created during the wizard import. The example shown is for a Lucidity integration.
Go to Setup -> System Setup -> Cameras -> Setup Cameras. Ensure the applicable camera type is associated with the dummy camera.
It will then display the configured dummy image/feed as the default when remote access is not permitted to the camera/access has expired.
