Logging In and Out
To log in to Synergy:
When the user has completed installation (including the Running Client Configuration in Synergy) and attempts to log in for the first time, Synergy will display a prompt requiring a change of password. The new password must be complex and by default must include the following:
-
At least eight characters
-
At least one lower case letter
-
At least one upper case letter
-
At least one numerical character
-
At least one of the following special characters: !"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^_`{|}~
This applies to the following default user accounts:
- op
- engineer
- manager
- super
For further detail on this process, see Mandatory Password Changes on page 1
When a suitable username and password have been chosen, enter your user name and password and click OK. You are now logged in to the Synergy Client.
Synergy requires each user to have a unique user name and password. These credentials allow you to access the software and to automatically populate relevant fields when you add a comment, log an event, and so on.
Alert: It is important to log in using the correct credentials so that all logs and reports are accurate. All of your activity in Synergy is tracked and can be reported on.
If your user account is in more than one user group and have set the client configuration setting additionalUserGroupsPerUserLogInSelect to true, you will be prompted to select which group to log in as:
Select a group and click Ok.
The user group will determine the level of system access (user permissions) you will have during this session.
EULA
You will also be required to accept the terms and conditions in the EULA before logging on for the first time.
To log out of Synergy:
Click the Exit Synergy button on the Task Bar on the Primary Window.
Your system might be set up to automatically log you out after a certain period of inactivity. If this happens, a message will appear on your screen telling you that your session has timed out.
To log in again, click OK to close the message and return to the User Log In screen.
Matching the Login Username in Synergy to the Windows Username
As of 25.2.100, there are some changes to the way user management works.
Scenario 1
When the Windows user account is an administrator, the Synergy username will autofill to match the domain username but the username is not locked.
The user can then select a different Synergy username with which to log in and perform maintenance activities.
Scenario 2
For Synergy users where the workstation is on a domain and LDAP is turned on, the username will autofill with the domain username and that field is then locked and cannot be changed. This ensures that no other user can log in to Synergy from this workstation, protecting security and ensuring that audit trails and logs are matching.
Note: The password is never autofilled and will always need to be entered still.
To configure this, you will need the following configuration:
-
maintainLastLDAPLogon=true in synergy.properties - this should be available as a default setting.
-
<activeDirectory>true</activeDirectory>
-
<activeDirectoryLockUsername>true</activeDirectoryLockUsername>
